LOCAL: Teenager passes away, while another teenager is seriously injured following a multi-vehicle collision in Beach Park

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that an 18-year-old man lost his life and another teenager was seriously injured in Beach Park on Saturday evening due to a five-vehicle collision caused by a driver.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Leland Avenue, prompting responses from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department at around 11:45 p.m. Deputies found five vehicles involved in the crash, with several sustaining significant damage.

According to Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 21-year-old man from Zion, driving a Toyota Avalon, failed to slow down and collided with a Dodge Journey driven by a 29-year-old.

The Toyota then hit a Nissan Sentra driven by a 37-year-old woman before crossing into the northbound lanes and crashing head-on into a Chevrolet Malibu driven by an 18-year-old man from Waukegan.

A Ford Edge traveling north narrowly avoided the collision but was damaged by debris. The 18-year-old Chevrolet driver sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while the Toyota driver suffered minor injuries.

A 17-year-old passenger in the Toyota was also seriously injured. The Dodge driver received treatment for minor injuries, and the Nissan driver was unharmed. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
