AIRLIFTED: A man airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries after being trapped in a collision in Prairie Grove

Following a collision with a tree, a man was flown to the hospital with severe injuries and remained trapped inside his pickup truck in Prairie Grove on Sunday morning.

Authorities from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Nunda Rural Fire Protection District, and McHenry Township Fire Protection District were called to respond to a vehicle crash with entrapment at Barreville Road and Wright Road in Prairie Grove around 6:18 a.m. on Sunday.

Emergency personnel discovered a single-vehicle crash just north of the intersection, as reported by Nunda Rural Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.

The truck veered off the road and struck a tree, according to Vucha.

The male driver was heavily trapped inside the Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Firefighters worked for over 45 minutes to free the victim from the vehicle.

Vucha mentioned that the driver sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by a LifeNet medical helicopter.

The roadway was closed for several hours by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for an investigation into the crash.

Barreville Road, between Wright Road and Gracy Road, was reopened at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Prairie Grove Police Department.
